Fordyce May Regret Decision Sydney Correspondent. SYDNEY. No jockey in recent has been in such a predicament as E. Fordyce, who is riding in better form than ever. When weights were issued for the Winter Handicap, the seven-furlong sprint at the S.T.C.

meeting al Rosehill next Saturday, Fordyce was wanted for three horses -Denali, The Groom, and Deep Sea. Denali won after weights were declared. The Groom was unlucky in the Doomben Ten Thousand: and Deep Sea has proved himself in first-class form by winning the Flying Handicap at Canterbury yesterday. Denali was withdrawn, and Fordyce chose The Groom 35 his mount. After Saturday's win on Deep Sea he probably is not so sure of the decision.

He does not propose seeking a release from the engagement on The Groom and, if Deep Sea is a runner, W. Cook will have the mount. Deep Sea' owner. Mr. A.

A. Murrell, is ill in hospital. and it will not be known until during the week whether Deep Sea will run at Rosehill. The horses owned by Mr. Murrell, and trained at Rosehill by G.

Mr. W. A. Clancy, cost, £25, won the Inverness Handicap, principal event at Moonce Valley yesterday. It was Golden Gem's second win in 10 days on a city course, and his 20th from 31 starts.

If put up at auction he would realise probably the better part of Of the 28 horses who competed in the two steeplechases. only 14 got around safely.

Several riders in those races received abrasions, and were treated on the course. A grand exhibition of fencing was given by Cheery Boy in winning the Oaklands Steeplechase. Shannon's share of the stake was Shannon and the favourite, On Trust, staged a great duel in the straight. Shannon, who was suited by the small field of nine, raced up to On Trust, who was topweight with 9.2, as the horses entered the stretch. A furlong from the post Adams gave the whip to Shannon, and the two surged ahead of the field to the roars of the crowd of 47.670.

Shannon's owner, Neil McCarthy, was at sea, on his way to the London Olympic Games, during the race, and heard the result when he telephoned America from the liner. Ths Australian jockey, George Moore, who watched the race, said: "Shannon looked in much better condition to-day than when I was here before. Honours must go to the trainer. Willie Molter, for the way he has conditioned and placed Shannon in America." Adams said he thought Shannon the race won at the half-mile post, but he was under a little pressure at the end.
